june102.jpgShamrock Nursery is here to help you get ready to work outdoors.

Here are some helpful seasonal hints to keep your landscape, garden, and lawn looking their best.

1. Reapply crabgrass preventers to lawns which have an abundance of crabgrass in late summer. As soil temperatures warm up, crabgrass will germinate around 60-65 degrees. Be prepared with another 6-8 weeks of crabgrass prevention.  If crabgrass prevention is not needed, apply an application of Greenview Green Power to help green up your lawn if it is yellowing from the rain.  Keep it strong with slow release nitrogen to thicken and green.
june101.jpg2. Weather conditions are aiding fungal diseases in many lawn areas.  Apply Bayer Fungus Control for Lawns now and again in 4 weeks to help prevent or lessen fungal diseases such as dollar spot and brown patch.  It is always easier to prevent then to cure.
3. Many fruit trees are done blooming, apply an application of Fruit Tree Spray to reduce insect and disease problems on apples, cherries, pears & peaches.
4. Sevin granules may be applied to your garden to help with root and stem injuring insects.
june103.jpg5. Don't forget to Preen the garden, as many of your seeds are up and growing.
6. Most dandelions are bloomed out, but if they are still giving you fits, spray them for best results with Bonide Weed Beater Ultra. Spray that creeping charlie, violas, and henbit which have also begun to flower in your yard.
7. As insects begin to move, protect your home with Bayer Home Pest Control or Ortho Home Defense. These products are easy to apply and will protect your home from spiders, ladybugs and other insects.
greenhouse12.jpg8. Annual flowers should be fertilized at least once a week when watering with Jack's Classic fertilizer for optimal blooming results. Don't forget those vegetables, they can use a push too.

june1010.jpgIf you have your gardens and flowers planted, now is the opportunity to look for areas that have bare spots and think about planting a perennial or two. Adding one or two a year will help keep the expense down and will add beauty year after year. Check your local Shamrock garden center for new varieties as well as tried and true varieties.  Don't forget Father's Day is coming up, plant a tree in his honor and re"tree" America to help with global warming, increased property value and added shade for your yard and home.
